The First Course has Stretcher Stones laid out 3” below grade on a 6” compacted Aggregate Base. Split Stretchers are used for Corners. Filler Block are used instead of Aggregate to fill the area.

We will Ilustrate on this page how to build steps with 6” Stretcher Wall and Cambridge Stairway Filler Blocks. The Step project involves Four Steps and a Landing. The 4 Steps are 6” Rise, 24” from Ground level.

The Second Step starts 10” from the First step and repeats the process, Cut Stretcher or Filler stones with a Wet Saw.

The Third Step starts 10” in from the Second step and repeats the process, Cut Stretcher or Filler stones with a Wet Saw to fit.

The Fourth Step starts 10” in from the Third step and repeats the process, Cut Stretcher or Filler stones with a Wet Saw to fit.

Place Cambridge Large Caps (3”H x 18L x 12D) on the Steps (secure with Paver grade adhesive) Split Cap stones for a Finished edge on the end of each step. The Stair treads made with the Caps will protrude 2” from the stone below (12” Tread) be sure to maintain the same reveal on the edge of each step. When you get to the last (Porch Row) continue the Cap stone on the edges of the porch area.

The finished Cambridge Stretcher Steps are finished with Cambridge pavers in a bed of concrete sand in between the glued in place Cap stones on the Top Row. Note: This set of steps can be viewed from the side and so a finish of stretcher stones were used. If the side of the steps were hidden by a wall or structure then Cambridge Stairway filler block could be used to save time and money.
